What is a calorie?
Hello!
Let's talk calories!
What is a calorie? It originated as a term used in the mid-1800s to define the amount of energy used to heat water for steam engines. That idea was then taken and added to food. How fast food burns is how many calories it is worth.
But did you know the FDA allows discrepancies of up to 20% on food labels?
Counting calories shifts our focus away from what our body needs to perform its amazing functions. We assume we know how much energy it takes our bodies to process an avocado therefore we can only allow it to have half of one because we plan on having something else that day.
Moderation is a terrific thing but we have to remember to listen to our bodies. What did we ask of it? Did we demand a workout on very little sleep? What is it doing for you? It's breathing for you, it's eliminating toxins and waste, it's constantly regenerating itself, and if you happen to be incubating another human all that work multiplied tremendously.
Our bodies will be completely regenerated in 7 years. That means not one cell in our current bodies, including bones and organs, will still be alive in 7 years. It will be made of the food we are eating today. When we consider this we can shift our focus to quality over calories.
